"How many Postals have you? I have 193."
Today I would like to share a couple of postcards that caught my eye recently. They are wonderful as much for their pictures as they are for the words written on the backs. Reading what people wrote long ago is like a little look into their lives and how things were.
This postcard for example I imediately fell in love with because of the pretty picture on the front, it's so charming and sweet and beautiful, but when I turned it over this is what I read....
"This card is not very pretty but I will send a prettier one next time. I think the picture postal you sent looked very natural Anna. How many postals have you? I have 193."
Not very pretty? Says I. Makes me wonder what she did consider a pretty postal.

This next one is cute and the little scene so quaint but there was a lot of writing on the back, pretty specific to everyday life and travel that I couldn't give up.
It says...
"Say if you get a chance to come to Else's you could phone from there it is only 9 miles from here, but you come on the train if no other way and we will take you home on Sunday. Try to come and stay a week. How are you Celia, you had been sick. Earl is pretty sick his fever being 102. Vern will be here for meals until he gets better. I haven't been over, am afraid to take Babe until I know what it is. You can tell Celia now be sure and come. -Myra"

No going postal for me recently. Bummer... I tend to hunker down for the winter and wait for flea markets for purchasing vintage postcards. But flea markets will be here before I know it! Can't wait. Both those cards are beautiful, and I love the messages on the back. A gentle reminder of an era gone by. Enjoy your pieces of history!

Thespa, I often do the same thing - choose a postcard just because the writing is beautiful on the back or for what it says, not so much the picture on the front. I have some with pictures that don't appeal to me at all but the fonts that say "Postcard" are too pretty to resist or the penmanship. We don't write like that anymore, do we! Gee, do they even still TEACH longhand in schools anymore? I find myself scribbling instead of writing beautifully because my thoughts outrun my fingers! Typing keeps up with my brain faster! LOL!

I love these, and the messages are great. I think about writing, a real letter, the ones with a stamp..but I rarely do any more...,sad,,I'm glad old postcards have survived the years, and you have shared them.
