An Old Old Story

Those of us that love old things, no matter their condition, are intrigued more by the unknown stories behind them than the things themselves. Every old thing no matter how big or small, has a story to tell. This piece of mixed media stitching is based on this idea.
Many of the small metal findings in this artwork came from my dad's and grandfather's metal detecting finds. Some of them were old buttons my mother collected, and some of them are old things I have collected. The captions are cut from an antique hymnal. There is machine embroidery as well as hand stitching over many layers of vintage fabrics, antique paper, and hand made pulp. The framework is made of tie wire.

Speaking of being intrigued by the story that old things have to tell, here are some estate sale finds from Sat...
All for less than a five dollar bill.

Who loves enameled old flower pins! Just love the red white and blue! I came across a whole trunk full of these old enameled pins in all shapes and sizes and colors. I'm going to make a floral arrangement out of them.

Hope you are all having a wonderful day!

Thespa, You need to do a blog post on "The Secrets of How I Find the Best STUFF"!!! PLEEEZ? Amazing finds. But, your quilted masterpiece is beyond words. I absolutely adore what you've done and the sentimental/personal nature of what you've included. I have several little boxes of stuff from my father's junk drawer which also included little things from his father's belongings. Nothing valuable and if I hadn't been there when my childhood home was being cleaned out some it might have been tossed. Your beautiful creation gives me a whole new idea of how I would like to showcase these treasures-to-me trinkets. Xo, Sue
