I went to a bunch of yard sales with my friend Lydia this past weekend. We went all over and found some really great sales. I found some amazing deals, I bought over a hundred dollars worth of brand new Build-A-Bear stuff for my daughter for only $10, I found two really cool full sized quilts for only $1 each (yes that's "one" dollar, and if I hadn't found this bag the quilts would have been my best find for the weekend) I found lots of things to put in my girls room as I remodel while they are gone on vacation.
And I found this wonderful Whiting & Davis Mesh Gate Top bag. These are highly collectible and getting hard to find. I've found several gate top bags online here and there with prices ranging anywhere from $30 to $250.
The unique thing about the one I found is the way the bottom is made. I haven't seen one yet that has this neat triangular fringe on the bottom, they are all flat across the bottom.
I found this amazing bag for only $1 (yes that's "one" dollar)
SCORE!
The cap has a wonderful embossed design with flourishes and flowers. It is silver plated and some of the silver plating is worn off from use but considering it's age (1930's) It's in really good condition. The rest of the bag is great, none of the links are broken or messed up, the liner inside is in good shape.
Flip open the cap and wonder.....how the heck do you get anything in there? Is it only for carrying a tube of lipstick?
No.......
It accordion folds open, how awesome is that! I had never seen anything like it before.
When I saw it my first impression was that it was an odd ice pack, LOL.
I didn't even know it was a name brand collectible bag till I got home with it and started doing some research.
I just loved the fact that it was unusual.
I've been collecting 1920's purses made of leather, but I guess a 1930's purse made of metal mesh could fit into that collection, right?
I plan to use it when Rodney and I go to the casino on our anniversary, weekend after next, 15 years!
This is a casino style purse if ever I saw one, LOL.
So much fun!

What a fantastic find and the most amazing deal! The bag is just gorgeous! Enjoy your treasure!
What a great find! The thrill of the hunt! Congrats on your super find.
Thespa,
Screech with pure delight! A dollar?! Heaven was smiling on you! What's even more special is that it found its way to someone who appreciates it for the treasure that it is. I love these old mesh bags as well and you are so right in stating the prices are getting ridiculous! But I wait patiently as every once in a while you can still find a good deal...not as good as a dollar. That takes a smile from heaven. Enjoy, Xo, Sue
