"Bird Song" is a mixed media necklace I made last week. It is made up of an antique brass compact (maybe you remember it from the pictures I showed of the things I found at the flea market a few posts back?), a vintage brass frame, vintage watch crystal, piece of an old book with a bird silhouette, old rhinestones, glass beads, an old locket and the words "bird song".
The inside of the compact has a little collage made up of old papers, paint, fabric and the definition of the word "listen".
This is the antique wedding headpiece that my Aunt Cynthia sent me in the mail...
She also sent me the handmade wedding dress that went with it and I loved it instantly and it is now the newest addition to my altered dress form. I will get pictures posted of it as soon as I can but I really wanted to show you this headpiece today.
By examining the crushed flowers on this piece I was able to figure out how these were made and that made it even more special...
Apparently these are made of paper flowers that were dipped in beeswax and then dipped in pearl paint. Isn't that neat! My mind is already whirling with ideas on how to adapt this technique into my artwork. I'm experimenting now.
Thanks Aunt Cynthia for the wonderful vintage goodies! I love them!
